These beautiful red nuts are Red Livermore Walnuts. They are sold in-shell to maximize shelf life and so you can get the true experience of cracking them open yourself. In-shell walnuts will last the longest and can tolerate the most diverse conditions. Most important is to keep them dry, but cool temperatures will preserve the oils in the walnuts for even longer.

NOTICE: All in shell nuts can not be screened for the perfecting looking nut. Due to extreme heat, a percentage of each in shell order will nuts, when cracked, that our black, dried out or shriveled. These are generally edible, and used in our industry for making products like nut oils. However, we know that our customer prefer the best looking nuts out there so we add extra nuts to every in shell order.

I am so glad I finally decided to purchase directly from a farmer. While I do garden and normally buy as much produce and meats locally directly from farmers, this is the first time I purchased nuts online directly from a farmer. These are fantastic and exactly what I hoped for, so fresh and yummy. I made the mistake of cracking enough to fill a pint jar and am afraid I will eat too many at a time, guess I have to bake something with them and then crack a smaller amount. These red walnuts in shell are just gorgeous – when you crack those open you just have to take a moment and be amazed at their deep purplish red color and only then consume! Of course they taste fantastic. I ordered 3lb red walnuts in shell and 2lb black walnuts in hull. They came pretty quickly in a week. I surprisingly found a hand-written letter from Clayton Handy with warm welcome and an extra pound of red walnuts for possible not perfect walnuts! They really made my day! The wild black walnuts are difficult to find, and it was an interesting experience to unhull them and get the nuts in their real shells. Last year when I ordered they were delayed a few days and even though I didn’t think anything of it, I got a call from Clayton Handy himself! He was so gracious and wanted to apologize and update me. It was a pleasure talking to him and he even sent a note (and with extra walnuts) to thank me. This year even with a speedy shipment, he still sent a note and extra walnuts!
