Our Regeneration Farm

Healthy soil is the cornerstone of robust agriculture. The intricate web of life within the soil supports all growth.

Our practices prioritize maintaining the vital ecosystem in the soil. Through attentive care, we strive to ensure that every seed planted has a strong foundation. Soil health impacts both crop yield and nutrient quality.

These methods help sustain the rich, fertile ground our crops thrive upon. They’re crucial for capturing carbon and fostering resilience against climate challenges.

The benefits reach beyond plants. Consuming foods grown in nutrient-rich soil supports human health. It bridges the essential connection between what we eat and how we farm. At Handy Farms, the vitality of the soil guides our mission, nourishing both land and community.

Key techniques in our soil management include:

1Never using any chemicals (we call these the ‘IDES – pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc.) or synthetic chemical fertilizers.

2. Choosing and growing a variety of cover crops. This helps improve the relationship between soil microbes, plants, and animals.

3. Practicing no-till farming methods to ensure the integrity of our fungal mycorrhiza works in the soil.

4. Grazing animals under the trees use planned or rotational grazing methods. This helps improve the health of both the animals and the soil.

5. Applying biologically active vegetative compost to enhance biology and available nutrition.

6. We can improve soil by adding a variety of helpful microbes. We do this by brewing our own compost tea. This helps restore the rich life in the soil. Healthy soil leads to healthy plants, animals, and people.

7. Farming the land with all the love our little family can give! We love this way of farming and living.
