How Are Nuts Harvested?
Sometimes we can take for granted how easy it is to buy a bag of walnuts and pop some into your mouth. But have you ever been curious about how walnuts get from the tree into your hands? There is a five step process that we follow at Handy Farms to harvest our organic walnuts and make sure they are top-notch quality once they reach you. We hope that you can appreciate our process of preparing walnuts and enjoy these tasty snacks even more than before.
Step One: Harvest!
Most walnut farmers collect the walnuts off the ground. Since Handy Farms has cover crops, we can’t harvest that way. Instead, we use a special machine that gently shakes the walnuts off the trees and catches them before they hit the ground.
Step Two: Remove Husk
Walnuts come off the tree safe inside a green shell, also called the green husk. We remove the green husk to prepare for the next step.
Step Three: Drying!
We send the walnuts off for a little while to dry.
Step Four: Deshell
After they are done drying, we take the walnuts out of their hard, brown shell.
Step Five: Enjoy!
The walnuts are ready to enjoy! We package the walnuts up and ship them to your door so that you can taste the freshness of our farm!
So there you have it! We keep our process precise and consistent so that we can preserve the best taste of natural freshness. It’s important to us to make sure that you get the highest quality of organic walnuts we can offer you, so that you can enjoy them with all your favorite dishes and traditions.
