These beautiful red nuts are Red Livermore Walnuts. They are sold in-shell to maximize shelf life and so you can get the true experience of cracking them open yourself. In-shell walnuts will last the longest and can tolerate the most diverse conditions. Most important is to keep them dry, but cool temperatures will preserve the oils in the walnuts for even longer.

Red Livermore Walnuts have festive colors because of their dense nutrition, including high concentrations of B vitamins and antioxidants. Perhaps you’ve eaten an English Walnut in the past and found it too bitter. Red Walnuts have a considerably low level of tannic acid, making them far less bitter and easier to digest. The coloring ranges from lighter red skin to deeper black and maroon colored skin.

About The Farm: Handy Farms is owned and operated by the property’s only residents: The Handy Family. Clayton Handy had a dream to create a fully sustainable farm. He dreamed of having his food products free from pesticides, herbicides, and as nutritionally dense as possible. As a result of the dense understory soil organic matter is also building. I am so glad I finally decided to purchase directly from a farmer. While I do garden and normally buy as much produce and meats locally directly from farmers, this is the first time I purchased nuts online directly from a farmer. These are fantastic and exactly what I hoped for, so fresh and yummy. I made the mistake of cracking enough to fill a pint jar and am afraid I will eat too many at a time, guess I have to bake something with them and then crack a smaller amount. Will definitely order again!

These walnuts are the ultimate winner from what I’ve tried before. I was amazed at the freshness. Sometimes nuts are warehoused too long and they begin to smell stale. Not so here. These red walnuts in shell are just gorgeous – when you crack those open you just have to take a moment and be amazed at their deep purplish red color and only then consume! Of course they taste fantastic. I crack those only when I am ready to eat them to maintain their freshness, and also to see the color which comes out a bit differently in every nut and it is fascinating to expect some variation with every nut cracking! I ordered 3lb red walnuts in shell and 2lb black walnuts in hull. They came pretty quickly in a week. I surprisingly found a hand-written letter from Clayton Handy with warm welcome and an extra pound of red walnuts for possible not perfect walnuts! They really made my day! The wild black walnuts are difficult to find, and it was an interesting experience to unhull them and get the nuts in their real shells.
